Presented by the Conserve Wildlife Foundation of New Jersey.
Mid-summer marks the nestling period of nesting ospreys, a coastal raptor, whose diet consists mainly of fish. As a state that’s heavily influenced by its location along the Atlantic Ocean, they play a critical role in our coastal ecosystem. Ospreys are important bio indicators of the health of our coastal waters, through the lens of their prey, where pollutants are bio magnified through the food chain. As we consume many of the same fish, they show the effects of these pollutants long before humans, so the health of their population has implications for our coastal waters and us!
Conserve Wildlife Foundation is a private, non-profit organization dedicated to the protection and preservation of New Jersey’s endangered and threatened wildlife and the habitats they depend on. CWF carries out their mission by researching and managing rare animal species, restoring habitat, educating New Jersey’s residents and engaging volunteers in our conservation projects. Since 1990, CWF scientists and educators have helped conserve and protect a variety of at-risk species of wildlife in New Jersey, the most densely populated state in the nation and beyond.
