THE JERSEY COAST REALITY OF SEA LEVEL RISE
What is sea level rise and what causes it to exist in geologic time. Does human activity really contribute to global warming? Examples of sea level creeping up since 1910 (NOAA data). The Rutgers Global Mapper images: Cape May City, West Wildwood, Middle Township, Avalon. Nuisance Flooding, what is it? Avalon studies, Longport NJ studies, Stone Harbor studies. How the data will support municipal/state cooperation in addressing this process? Ultimately low lying developed sites have three choices if sea level rises 5 feet or more by 2100. Dike the entire area subject to flooding and pump out all rainfall. Raise the ground elevation subject to flooding by 8-10 feet including EVERYTHING. Get ready to walk away with a large capital loss income tax write-off for property loss.
Professor Stewart Farrell received his Ph.D. in coastal geology from the University of Massachusetts in 1972 following acceptance by the Richard Stockton College as an Assistant Professor in the Marine Science program in 1971. His contribution was focused on integrating both coastal zone processes and marine geology along with sedimentation and stratigraphy into the newly developed marine science undergraduate program.
