Learn about New Jersey's Elusive Hunter: The Bobcat
Learn about New Jersey's Elusive Hunter: The Bobcat with Conserve Wildlife Foundation Executive Director David Wheeler. By the 1960's, bobcats were virtually extinct in New Jersey due to habitat loss and hunting. Restoration projects in the late 70's and early 80's led to the reintroduction of 24 bobcats back into the state, with the hope of monitoring the population over the years as it established a breeding and stable population. Today, they are New Jersey's only remaining wild cat and listed as one of New Jersey's endangered species.
David Wheeler is the Executive Director of the nonprofit Conserve Wildlife Foundation of New Jersey. (CWF) Mr. Wheeler has worked on wildlife conservation and environmental issues in New Jersey and beyond for more than a decade. He is the author of the book Wild New Jersey: Nature Adventures in the Garden State, and a lecturer at Rutgers University's School of Environmental and Biological Sciences. CWF is a non-profit organization dedicated to the protection and preservation of New Jersey's endangered and threatened wildlife and the habitats they depend on. For nearly 20 years, CWF has carried out their mission through field science, habitat restoration, public education, and volunteer engagements.
