Gouache instructed by Doug Axmann

6-week class session.

Bring photo of animal you want to paint (be sure it is close enough to see fur.)

Gouache, body color, opaque watercolor, or gouache, is one type of water media, paint consisting of natural pigment, water, a binding agent, and sometimes additional inert material. Gouache is designed to be used with opaque methods of painting.

Doug Axmann’s creativity is divided between illustration and fine art. He has had work published in Visual Education Corporation manuals, along with several editions of Amazing Stories Magazine. While being the vice-president of the Raritan Valley Art Association, Doug is also a member of the Graphic Artist’s Guild, the Association of Science Fiction and Fantasy Artists, and the Somerset Art Association. Doug has received many awards for his work, and is exhibiting in local galleries and private collections. Doug taught at the Joe Kubert School of Cartoon and Graphic Art for fourteen years before relocating.

Attendees will need to bring:

Gouache Paints: Burnt Sienna, Cadmium Red or red hue, Ultramarine Blue, Cobalt Blue, Naples Yellow, Yellow Ochre, Bright Yellow, White, Black, (Or you can buy a set of Gouache colors) Brushes- #8 round, #12 round or flat, #1 Liner for detail, a large flat for washes; and a flat bristled brush approx. 1/2-3/4" thick. 140 lb. watercolor paper with board or foam core and masking tape (or illustration Board) drawing paper, tracing paper tablet, pencil, palette, water container, paper towels, and a kneaded eraser.
