The Jersey Cape Writers meet monthly to share their writing in a friendly supportive environment. Meetings are structured as follows: Writers come prepared with roughly ten copies of a piece of writing he or she would like to share. Pieces should not be longer than a page or two, i.e., one poem or an excerpt from a piece of fiction. Pieces are distributed around a table and then writers take turns presenting their work.
For each writer's turn, the writer reads his or her piece aloud for the group, the group then takes a few minutes to consider the piece quietly and to provide written comment, and then each member of the group takes a minute or two to provide his or her feedback aloud for the writer. At the conclusion of each writer's turn, the copies of his or her piece-now with written comments-are returned to the writer. Time allotted to each writer is dependent upon the number of attendees at the meeting. All comments provided are meant constructively, with genuine intent to encourage each writer in his or her craft.
